The Wirbelsäulenzentrum (Spine Center) was founded in 2006 by the doctors Bernd Hölper and Michael Eichler in Gelnhausen and quickly developed into an important pillar of operative spine care in the Main-Kinzig area. Growing numbers of patients from Fulda, Frankfurt and surrounding areas made it necessary to strengthen the team and expand the practice and operation locations over time.

In 2010, we opened the practice in Fulda and added the back center at the train station in Maria-Ward-Straße to our operational portfolio, which now covers the entire spectrum of operative spine care, in order to complement the important branch of the so-called “conservative therapy”. In this concept, conservative does not mean “traditional” or “old-fashioned”, but rather an important alternative or supplement to surgical treatment. The most important aspect here is the strengthening of the spinal column stabilizing back muscles. It contributes about 70% to the overall stability of the spine. In the back centre Fulda in the Maria-Ward-Straße there are different concepts available for the medical strengthening of the back muscles.

So far, there has not been a certified back specialist. Our sophisticated and comprehensive conservative and operative concept is the result of our close connection to neurosurgery and orthopaedics. This unites the advantages of both disciplines under one roof – the minimally invasive examination of the spinal column from a neurosurgical perspective on the one hand and the biomechanical perspective of spinal orthopaedics on the other. For our patients, this means a well-founded diagnosis and treatment of their spinal issues under conservative and surgical conditions.

In 2012, our colleague Dr. Göktas opened the practice at the MVZ of the St. Vincent hospital in Hanau.
